LACCTIC.com has them at 28th in D1 nationals. If they ran well, maybe top 20. No guarantee they would qualify for D1 nationals, especially if they were in the Mountain Region.
You are clueless. Better chance that they don't qualify. ISU had 5 sub 14 guys and didn't qualify.
What is dumb is for you to believe that D2 should be at the level of D1. Plenty of D2 runners could compete in D1. Hell, there are more a handful of D3 runners that could be on D1 teams.
There are students that realize that they should be at a school that fits their needs - academically & athletically. They couldn’t care less about the “division.” You’re too stupid and too slow to be at any school.
Was at the meet and it was an impressive performance by Mines. Redemption after last years meltdown.
But I have to laugh at the dudes that say D2 is just a bunch of mongos running around when US News ranked Mines the same as BYU, and ahead of CU, San Diego, Arizona, Oregon, San Fran, Utah and Tennessee.
Queue the trolls saying that I cherry picked one school out of a ton of D2 schools.
Mines is indeed a solid XC program, but comparing 10k times from D2 Nats at Chambers Bay vs D1 at OSU isn't an apples to apples comparison. Top 15-20 would be a good result. Not qualifying would also be a possibility.
Mines had less than a minute gap from their first to seventh runner. Not only that but their sixth runner (Paul Knight) is a true freshman whose time of 30:17 was faster than Colin Sahlman's time in the D1 race by 20 seconds. But Knight never broke 4:20 for the 1600 or mile in HS so he obviously can't be fast :P
Mines had some big performances at nationals. I bet their Lacctic score rises a good bit after D2s gets added to the database. I think Mines sneaks into the top 10 on a good day but the same could be said for any team ranked in the top 20.
Dillon Powell is a monster and would absolutely be top 10 at D1s. He's been on a mission since his infamous DNF last year. The guy is going to go sub 28 on the track this year.
Don’t agree with all the hate against D2 on these boards, but can appreciate this shout out to the late great George Carlin, who originated the oxymoron as insult- as in Military Intelligence, Legal Ethics, Chicano Power, etc.)
