I find Murray Halbergs example truly inspiring. I don't know that anyone would have called him an extraordinary talented runner like Peter Snell or a John Walker. But through hard work and great training he persevered and won a gold medal in the 1960 Olympics. I wasn't around at the time but I watch John Walker win in 1976 and I don't think people understand the excitement and impact that would vibrate through a small country like New Zealand. Halberg was one of the first in New Zealand to lead the way to a movement of elite runners.
