So tired at the "I'm not the kind of person who does this" defense. Lauren Johnson is doing the exact same thing with the Huntington scandal.
It reminds me off a moment in the first season of that "Serial" podcast NPR did, about the man convicted for muder on shaky evidence.
Sarah Koenig (host) said something to the effect of "you seem like such a nice person" to Adnan Masud Syed (convicted murderer). Syed paused and responded something to the effect of "I wish everyone thought I was a terrible person but they knew I didn't do this". Turns out, Syed didn't do it.
Contrast that to SH and LJ. All they have to defend themselves is "I'm not the kind of person who would do this". That's all they have, becuase the objective evidence says otherwise. Makes me wonder, are they really trying to convince themselves? Are they in denial that they really are the kind of person who would do this?
I think so.
LJ still has a long path to walk on the road to justice, but SH is going to wake up one day and realize it's all over. Her career is gone, her reputation is gone, and she is the kind of person that would do this. Everyone else has moved on.
This is who she is. And there is nothing she can do to change that now.
