IDK, but I do know that some of the comments about the boys looking a little worn out were a little closer to the truth than the Rocky fanboys and some of their boys team that were posting on here would like to admit. If they do get in, I think the difference between these programs will be even even more apparent. At NXN, they won't have the luxury of having a boy finish in 62nd and one in 99th and have them score only 37 and 60 points. Jesuit had their #4 at 30th and #5 at 84th (scoring 19 and 48), Crater had their #4 and #5 at 34th and 43rd (scoring 22 and 26), for reference.
Looking at splits, it does look like their #3 is back in form a bit more, but that may have more to do with not going out quite as hot as he has and running closer to his actual fitness level instead of trying to race way up. Either way, pretty clear that this isn't the #7 team according to Dyestat and definitely not the #4 ranking Milesplit has.
Their 1 to 5 spread is 1:07. Looking at state the spread was a little tighter, at 54 seconds. That's still an enormous spread that would not bode well at nationals. Only way that works is if your #1 is extremely fast, which which is not the case for Rocky Mountain.
No way Rocky Mountain gets in with that split. It should be much closer to 30 seconds to compete nationally.
Rocky Mountain's number 1 broke 15 minutes at Bob Firman (set the course record), to say he isn't fast is disrespectful. I think their season has given them a chance at getting an at-large bid which would be awesome for a team from Idaho of all places.

You completely missed the point. A gap like that only works if your #1 is so far ahead of the field that having your #5 1:07 back doesn't rack up enormous points.
I'm sure he's a talented athlete, but he got 15:24 on the same course as BF yesterday. 8th place. There was still massive gap. If he had an off day that gap should have markedly narrowed. But there was still a huge gap.
Doesn't matter how fast he or the team was 2 months ago. This is championship season. Nobody can take a mulligan. Maybe he and the team had a terrible day, but there are too many great teams to overlook a performance like that.
Still a 177.4 speed rating average on an "off" day to secure 3rd place in a legit region. Props to Crater and Jesuit for running like teams like can podium at NXN. I think Rocky did enough to earn an at-large bid.

I don't get the hype behind Rocky Mountain. Maybe being dominant in a smaller state distorts perception?
Winning Bob Firman is normally a big accomplishment. The best 3 very good PROGRAMS from Utah Skyridge, Farmington and Corner Canyon. These are all fantastic programs that have won state titles in the recent past. But all 3 are having significant down years. For perspective, these were the #9, #10, #11 fastest teams at the Utah State meet this year. They're decent teams, but nothing like in years past.
Is there something else on their resume I'm missing? All I can see is they beat a bunch of mediocre teams from Idaho all year.
No hype, they have just had a really solid season with some good speed ratings at Bob Firman, their State meet and NXR. I get the critique of the teams at Bob Firman but averaging 15:48 on that course is historically really good. Crater and Jesuits averages from NXR make them podium threats for NXN. If Newbury Park didn’t exist, Crater and Jesuit would be national champ threats with what they just averaged at that NXR course.

Doing well at NXR after state is a trick that not all coaches/teams have figured out. The training schedule has to account for it. Idaho teams don’t have a legacy of getting it right, and this year was no different as Rocky underperformed at state compared to what they were doing earlier.
That said, in an off race they didn’t finish that far behind Jesuit.
For what’s it’s worth I think Rock Mountain gets in. Crater and Jesuit looked solid. Perhaps what’s even more scary is Jesuit has more room for improvement. There back pack got out to fast at NXR and paid the price at the end. Plus the meet is in Portland. I bet they beat Crater at NXN for a podium spot. That said Rocky Mountain beat a quality field at NXR there were multiple ranked teams in that race that will help them slide into that spot. Would love to see these top three teams race again. It was a great race start to finish in Boise.
From what I saw, it looks like the Rocky boys bit off a little more than they could chew. Considering that they seemed to have some fairly poor racing overall on the day, its impressive that they still beat several ranked teams, and didn't lose by much to Jesuit, which is a legit powerhouse.
Their main problem at NXR was that Heemeyer did a lot of leading the chase pack once Gorze broke off, if he had stayed a little back, he could have placed better. Same with Sainsbury, he just got out a little too hard, and did a little too much of the work. Rocky's 3 had a great race, but their 4 and 5 had the opposite problem as their 1 and 2. Both Keith U and Cody L got out a little too hard and then ran out of steam the second half.
Crater put on a clinic, Jesuit did good but not great, and Rocky did poor. Overall, Rocky deserves a bid due to their consistency all season.
First Three Nike Cross Regionals This Weekend Mark Return To NXN Qualifying For First Time Since 2019; State Meet Performances Give Added Clarity To RankingsBy Doug Binder, DyeStat EditorYes, Nike Cross Regionals this weekend...
What Tyrone Gorze did in Eagle was amazing. Rocky Mountain boys had never seen that before!
Of course they haven't. If you look back at their past seasons, none of them have been to a meet deeper than Firman, and while Firman has a lot of decent guys, no one who's top of their class runs there.
They were at RunningLane in Alabama last year so they’ve seen that level of running before. Crater’s 15:36 average at NXR was historic. Tons of respect for the day that squad had! Awesome to see so many good NW teams
Yeah, none of the guys ran at the Firmans that had actual competition. As for Running lane, that was one meet, and neither Sainsbury or Heemeyer had started running very fast times consistently yet, so it didn't really give them experience running really fast while not being in the top 5 to 10.
