Background: I'm working on a premise for chapter in a planned running book. The premise is that busy adult runners are overlooking simple things they could to do improve running performance without spending more time running. These would be things they could do quickly at home without weights.
What would you recommend? Criteria: Exercises that can be done 1) at home or yard 2) with limited equipment, 3) quickly and 4) without needing to change clothes. It would be something that you could literally get up from your computer right now and do with no preparation. What would that be? Do studies exist to prove that it works?
Studies show that max barbell squat strength correlates to increased sprint performance. Is there a similar correlation between air squats and longer running performance up to, say, 5k?
It seems intuitive that air squats would improve running performance, but I couldn't find any studies on bodyweight squats on running performance in the academic literature, but I'm not great at doing academic searches. Layman 30-day challenges I've found dealt with body sculpting to get bigger glutes or legs.
I'm thinking of doing an n=1 "study" myself to see if my 200m reps improve after three sets of air squats/day for 30 days.
Thoughts? Links to studies?
