There is more to life than running. He is like a year away from having a degree from one of the best schools in the world, why would he transfer? He doesn't seem like he is going to go pro either.
Liam is a factor at Stanford, just not in a traditional way. Absolutely one of the best team leaders Stanford has ever had. He missed 18 months of training , had multiple surgeries, has remained a positive role model for all of his teammates.
Stanford public policy undergrad Liam Anderson has spent hundreds of hours over the last six years volunteering for the Marin County Search and Rescue Team. Last week, he served as plan section chief in the search for missing...
Really? All I hear from some connections to the program is that he is an entitled, self-important jack-ass. No reason to transfer though. Santos is killing it as a coach and Liam hasn't run well since November of his senior year in HS, so why would he do better elsewhere? He seems to be done as a national-class runner, and I think it goes beyond injuries.
having met liam in real life hes a fantastic person who honestly cares more about the team than his own success. Hes a true leader among the best team in the NCAA
You can disagree with the original post but it didn't strike me as overly critical or unreasonable from a running point of view. I personally think he should stay for some of the non-running reasons listed but if you look solely at running there are valid arguments for leaving.
The guy won NXN in 2018 but can’t make the top 7 for Stanford.
With Lex and Leo coming in, it will make it even harder for him to make it.
Is it pretty much time for Liam to transfer somewhere? Or go to a grad school where he would be a factor?

My daughter went through high school, zero injuries, goes to a D1 program starts getting injured and realizes there is much more to life than running, still on the team and working through injuries but a much happier kid, will come out of college with a degree from a top 15 academic school, will be a solid 5k/10k, turkey trot winner after college. Liam Anderson will have a degree from Stanford, a lifetime of memories and hopefully enjoy recreational running. The takeaway: turn lemons into lemonade and you can cruise through life easier than most that get stuck in the ditch and can never seem to get out.
As someone who has worked closely with Liam, he is one of the most outstanding student-athlete leaders Stanford has ever seen. Regardless of running, his intangibles have transformed the campus for the better and will carry him far in this life.

I believe that Aidan Ryan (Williams) and one of Princeton's top runners both transferred to Washington to finish out their NCAA careers - the University of Washington, not even WashU. I don't get that at all. Maybe Ryan had finished his undergrad and was getting a master's degree, but if he hadn't it's such a dumb decision. A degree from the #1 college or the #1 LAC in the nation is worth so much more than a degree from Washington.
