Happy Halloween to everyone. I've always said Halloween was one of the best days of the year as a kid and in college, nothing beat the Halloween party in terms of fun. but please stay safe everyone.
I'm actually taking my son down to a college friend of mine's house so he can trick or treat with her kids. I wanted to take a picture of us from Halloween in college to show the kids so I started looking around. I didn't find it - I guess it's not on google photos as we didn't have digital cameras in college - but in looking for it did come across a picture from 2003 when Weldon and I both wore dresses, given to us from a very liberal friend:
Then it struck me. Would this costume get you cancelled in 2003?
It's interesting from a woke-culture debate perspective. Since I've read it's never culturally appropriate for a kid to dress as a Native American, one would think that the answer would be no - a man can't dress as a woman, that's little different than a white person dressing up as an Indian.
But then again trans women are routinely celebrated as courageous for dressing as women so I'm not sure. Of course, one might say this is a cis person culturally misappropriating a trans person's culture.
I tried to google around but evenwhatsonqueerbcdotcom admits, "The answer is not straightforward." But in reading their article, I think they are saying what Weldon and I did in 2003 would not be ok in 2022. Do you agree or disagree?
