I'm back to running after a LONG hiatus due to injury. I've noticed something that I don't remember from the past. I've noticed some runners really pounding the ground with their foot strike. I saw a good young runner warming up before a race doing strides. His foot strike was like he was mad at the ground. Is this a recent change? Does it have to do with the current hyper-cushioned shoes? My generation emphasized a very light foot strike. When I'm in a race, I've noticed how loud some runners are. During a race yesterday, I heard a runner coming up behind me. I had to turn around and look because his foot strike sounded like someone who was about to fall down. I'm just curious if anyone else has noticed this.
