I’ve heard idiots say “a runner with long legs has an advantage.” However, here are the heights of the greats…

Bekele 5 5
Cheptegei 5 6
Kipchoge 5 6
Do what you need to do to stunt your growth.

You listed heights, not leg length.
read up on COG and belly button location locations of people with European v African heritage
For long distance, males between 5'3-6'0 is good and it is more about the leg to height ratio and more importantly the weight to height ratio.
“Is being really ideal for distance runners?”
I’d say yes, being really ideal is for distance runners, especially with respect to diet and training, but being really ideal is also good for just about anyone.
"Is being really ideal for distance runners?"
"Do what you need to do to stunt your growth."...........Indeed.

My God they're little midgets

The unbearable lightness of being.
Time to get reverse leg lengthening surgery
Kipchoge and bekele seem to have ''normal'' ratio compared to other long leged Africans, so maybe too long of a leg is not ideal?
and also i have noticed that runners at the long end of the leg to torso ratio spectrum tend to have Exaggerated forward lean and poor posture with lose loping stride in LONGer distance, Kipchoge and bekele obviously looks pretty compact
Yes.
"Being" is not only ideal, but it's a pre-requisite for distance running.
If you don't exist, you can't run.
Why are this plus the garbage "Americans have never been slower" both on the front page? Letsrun needs to raise the bar...

That's funny.
But wait... there is Wilson Kipsang. While I agree there seems to be commonality amongst the elite distance runners in regard to height there will always be exceptions.
In the world of sprinting the thought that a 6'5" runner can dominate the world was thought to be unlikely and now the theory is that in order to match the top speed Bolt generated it can only be possible with someone who is of a similar proportion.
On second thought, maybe Kipsang is a poor example given his suspension.
Hot take: being is not ideal as a runner.
1. More susceptible to injury.
2. Need to worry about fueling.
3. Unless one is a manifestation of angry spirits, running the 800m on pure hate becomes significantly more difficult in the absence of a neuroendocrine system.
For these reasons and more I recommend all serious runners attempt to transcend beyond this physical plane (if you can't achieve this naturally an eighth of shrooms may stand-in).
I run, therefore I am.
Yes. When we look into the realms of what being really is we tend to experience growth in our spirit, a warm colorful energy with two hits of LSD or an eighth of shrooms.
Next year you will be able to BQ trust me! Feel the energy as it twists and flows.

Looking at OP, I guess 'tall' was left out, but as pointed out, there are many more variables (leg to body ratio, thigh to leg ratio, etc.) I believe that genetic VO2 (or better yet: trainable VO2) is much more important. I see little girls with small legs and little muscles running easily at close to their anaerobic rate.
