I remember when John got the Wake job. We were chatting on the phone and he was telling me how he thought he could build a really good program there. I was thinking, "No. Stop. The conference is loaded, the school is super expensive and while it's a great school the best smart kids are going to want to go to Stanford or the Ivies." My bad. Today their top 4 went 2-3-4-8 and then they closed the deal at 24.

And Syracuse gets 2nd. Love to see Brien Bell and upstate NY representing. Only disappointing thing was the LRC intern was a DNF for the Cuse.

Would hardly call it a “blow up”. Seven ranked teams, difference of 6 points 2nd place to 4th. Sure there’s a gap from their 3rd to 4th runner and they need to find a 5th but he has an ACC champion that, lets say it, beat the almighty Parker Wolfe and has 3 in top ten. Not a blow up. Give him a break or get out of your basement and try to do a better job if you know so much.

I remember when John got the job at Wake too. He was my neighbor and good Freind in Austin. I had absolutely no doubt that he would build a top 10 national mens team. He did do it quicker than I thought though!

I agree with Rojo that the deck was stacked against him BUT John was the Captain of his own ship at Wake. He controlled his fate for the first time in a long time. And he had his crew working. From last in Conference ( the year before he took over) to first! impressive!

Interestingly he was also able to beat ( crush really) a Virginia team that not only had home course advantage, but has had one of the greatest coaches ever at the helm for four years.

I think we have to admit, a recent John Hayes has done a lot better than a recent Vin Lananna in the mens side. A lot better. Great job Mr. Hayes.
