Laz Lake is a legend in the ultra community and for good reason. But what is he known for - for beign a hardass and sticking to the rules. Anyone remember in the height of Covid, he DQd one of the two finalists as he started a lap 1:45 late while fiddling with his IPAD but didn't know he was late as he was running remotely?
Well at this year's Backyard Ultra, the top 2 guys set a record - 101 laps. Then they both sided to not run any more as they barely finsihed the previous lap in time.According to Canadian Running, Laz's rules are clear:
Laz’s traditional backyard ultra rules, one runner must complete a final solo lap to win, or all competitors finish with a DNF (did not finish) result.
So what did Laz do? He let them split the win instead of haivng no winner.
Do you love this? Or not?
I do not. This to me is weak sauce. I'm fine with the the runners stopping but I'm not fine with Laz not saying there was no winner.
This reminds me of the 2020 Olympic HJ. DQ em both. What do you think?
