I go to a 3k student school in CA yet my coach gets paid like 3k a semester but he still shows up everyday and really cares about the kids and their future. The problem is that he switches up his training philosophy every 2 weeks or so and never takes input/feedback at all. I'm a 14:45 3 mile guy and 15:20 5k (, I'm hoping to run 15:00 at Mt. Sac,) guy but I'm still a junior so I have a while left with the team. The team is super young too with 3 freshman, a sophomore, and a junior running sub 16 in the 3 mile besides me. We'll do one week where he lets me get the mileage I want (, 60 in 7 days,) with 2 workout days and then the next week he shames me saying I'm obsessed with mileage and that it's just a useless number. I feel like we have a team that can potentially make nxn in the years to come and I'm hoping to be a top US runner. I've been trying to not overthink things but I've come down with either a virus or infection recently so during this break I've had time to think about this and I need to do something but I hate having to choose between the team or not. For reference I'll try to nudge my coach and reference something that some other runners are doing just to see if we want to implement it in any capacity. Then in classic fashion he'll always say that they could just be fast in spite of their training which is ironic because the same could be said for our team under his training. I'm not sure if their is an optimal way of handling this situation because he really does care and I'd hate to hurt him but I don't think the current situation can go on if I want to reach my goals.
