I raced a half marathon this weekend as a fitness test/practice race day, ahead of a marathon I’m running in 5 weeks. I didn’t taper for the half marathon, as I’m in one of my marathon peak weeks and wanted to run it on tired legs. My question is, I wanted to use it as a good predictor of my marathon time, but obviously I was running the half on fatigued legs and no taper. My finish was 1:37, or 7:24/mile. I want to use this as a marathon race predictor (Jack Daniels, etc), but I also feel like I could have gone way faster if I had properly tapered? Have any of you had this experience, and how did running a half on fatigued legs translate to your mara time ?
