How does this happen to someone so young? unless he had a pre-existing condition...? All my prayers to him and his family this is so devastating. All the more reason to make EKG part of routine physical.
Given his age he probably was born with an abnormality and has a clotting issue. It’s sad this happened but happy he’s okay and hopefully will be able to look into the cause and how this can be avoided in the future.
Be there will be LR bros coming out of the woodwork saying some fraction of people at all ages get a heart attack and that it has nothing to do with running.
The problem with this is a majority of high school athletes get a physical during physical night at school that is performed by an athletic trainer or they go to a clinic and a nurse or assistant does most of the physical ( none of which are qualified to read an EKG).

Are EKGs required for HS physicals? Wasn't for me or any of my kids.

A senior football player at Rahway High School died in his sleep on Thursday morning, according to a statement posted to the team’s Twitter account. “It is with great sadness, and a heavy heart, that we are sharing the unfort...
I can't believe it took that long for a COVID denier to show up.
Heart attacks have been occurring in young athletes for decades at the same rate. Peddle disinformation elsewhere please.
Do you have a source for your claim?
You of all people deserve no source since you post drivel from random_website.freedom.ru and random Twitter bots, but regardless, the rate of increase has been steady in younger people since 2000. Here is an example source, but there are many more reputable sources out there: "Here’s another troubling fact to

Heart attacks used to be something you worried about when you reached your 60s or retired. But that has changed. Heart attacks are increasing in adults aged 40
There are clear health benefits to exercise; even so, patients with cardiac conditions who engage in exercise and athletic competition may on rare occasion experience sudden cardiac death (SCD). This article reviews the epide...
Discussions about the dangerous effects of concussions in young athletes have gained national attention. But another threatening condition is equally deserving of coverage: sudden cardiac arrest.
My post right above yours provides a link regarding the steady rate of rise of heart attacks in younger people since the year 2000 due in large part to lifestyle factors. I also can't believe you are trying to claim it as disinformation in the same thread carmine is posting in.

I haven't seen data to prove your assertion that heart attacks have NOT increased. Provide a source or your post is disinformation.
I'll settle for a heart attacks in the 5 years preceding covid and the one year that vaccines have been available to high schoolers.
Show us this data. Some official saying, "Nothing to see here, folks" is not acceptable. Show us the data to prove your assertion.
The internet is a scary and mysterious place for you, innit? Did you know there are "websites" where you can type in a question and magically get, like, literally millions of answers?
Why have all these heart attacks been occurring since early 2021?
Hahaha, alright co-Trumper, it’s statements/questions like this that makes us sound like dummies oblivious to what’s going on in the world. This has happened practically every year I can remember. Most reported are HS football players probably because there is more of them and it’s a much more popular sport. I mean every fall/winter nightly newscast has 30 mins of reporting football results. T&F and XC get zilch.
if you want to tie this to the covid vaccine please ask/state your suspicion in a more direct manner.

I was typing when this was posted. It doesn't address my request for data because it doesn't show heart attacks for high schoolers AND it doesn't show the rate of increase from summer 2021 to summer 2022 as the vaccine rolled out to the <18 cohort. And it stops in 2016. Show us the last 12 months of data. I'm positive that it exists.
However, let's assume that the rate for <20 is the same 2%/year increase as the 20-30 cohort. Show us data for heart attacks for teenagers <18 for Aug2021 to Aug2022.
Until you show that data, your post is just misdirection.
