The news article I read in the Boston Globe also stated they are working on providing "equal prize money" for the category as well.
If I was an east African runner where $150,000 USD is an absolutely life changing, staggering amount of money, I'd be signing up as non-binary REAL fast.
Either that or they'll just divide the total prize pool up by one more "slice" reducing it across the board for all categories.
The non-binary qualification time should be the same as the men's time. If you're self-categorizing using a metric that isn't definite, the standard should the most difficult to reach, not the easiest. All of Boston's qualfying standards are set to ensure that they're each relatively difficult compared to each other.
If someone born April 18, 1988 has to run 5 minutes faster than someone born April 17, 1988 to qualify, it doesn't make sense that half the non-binary community would get a 30-minute advantage just by virtue of self-classification. There's no other area in Boston's qualification system that defers to offering the easiest-possible option.
If a non-binary person wants to register under the women's time, and they have a birth-assigned document that proves their eligibility for that category, fine. There's no reason to offer the easiest time for this category.
There is nothing on the front page or message board regarding yesterday's Philadelphia Distance Run. This half marathon was once the WR course (Mark Curp, 1:00:55, 1985 then lowered by Dionicio Cerón, 1:00:46, 1990) so it ha...

Seems to only compete as non-binary when money is available.
Glad someone is taking advantage of the situation. Perhaps this will highlight the silliness of the category.
Didn't a UK race simplify this a few months ago. Only 'born females' can race in the 'female' category, all other gender identification must run in the male division. Or something like that.

That’s triathlons approach if I’ve read correctly. Female category and then Open category for everyone else. Really seems like the most simple, fair option.
This is exactly what I am doing, as well as a few others I know
Well you must have qualified in a race where you ran as non binary according to the text in the Boston marathon site. So if Im reading it correctly if you ran as male it wont work. The text reads:
"Non-binary athletes who have completed a marathon as a non-binary participant during the current qualifying window (September 1, 2021 through September 16, 2022) may submit an entry application into the 2023 Boston Marathon between September 12-16, 2022."
