the course have several holes on it and uneven surfaces, she seemed to have twisted her ankle in the middle of the race or she might have re-injured her injury, she was limping in the last 1.5k but was not pulled out by coach taylor, poor jenna.
Never seen her run before, but that doesn't look like limping to me. Looks more like Cheptegei that time he ran himself into the ground at World XC or Teare last year at NCAA XC crawling to the finish.
If we would predict any BYU runners hitting a wall, I don't have jenna hutchins on my list, she's a very good hs runner and is their top recruit, we assumed. hopefully that's just the case and she's not injured.
Yes, looks like runner who hit the wall. If she's coming back from a setback or injury, there is probably a disconnect between her current fitness, and where her mind says she should be in the field of runners. She probably raced up front because she expects to be there, but was not in shape to do that yet, thus hitting the wall. I've done the same thing myself, though usually realizing and backing off before falling apart as bad as that.
One thing I observed, Hutchins has never been herself after running 15:34 in 2020, that was her last impressive race, after that she has not posted fast times nor raced as much, whether its an injury or a case of burnout, no one knows, so far, not looking good, because if she had a good summer of training, she wouldn't be struggling this much. She went to college a semester early, she should be more ready vs the other freshmen.
Not injured, just cramping up like a motherf---er. Looked like Julia Lucas in the final 50 meters of the 2012 Trials. If she wasn't running for BYU this wouldn't get much attention. But this website is overloaded with bigotry toward Mormons so they take every opportunity to jump all over everything BYU. Much to the chagrin of many posters, the BYU women's cross country machine will roll on.
Hopefully she is ok. Looking at the race results she was 4th through the first two miles of the 5K then dropped off with a 7:00 last mile. Its early and enough time for her to recoup from whatever happened.
On my computer the 1:00:00 mark is an inaccurate time stamp. I see Jenna, wearing bib number 023, crossing the line at 1:00:31. Right?
I have to agree with everyone who has posted to say Jenna doesn't appear injured, and instead just "hit the wall". My guess is that the added distance of a collegiate cross country race, and the required training, caught up with her, as it must for so many freshmen and women.
first race is a nattering nabob of negativism, and that first post reflects an outlook of a person that wouldn't be fun to be around, or it was an outright attempt to stab Jenna -- like so many have done with Katelyn Tuohy. Go Jenna, go! Let's see where you are after continuing to work hard with Coach Taylor! (But, then, first race will probably still be around to throw another fly or two or ten into the ointment.)
Taylor is the better coach so if Henes would have done something different, it is likely that Hutchins received the better advice.
Don’t agree with you.
taylor is a better dresser, not sure if she thinks she is a model or if she just likes the attention. But, the BYU team is not getting better under her, seems like besides the team she inherited they are regressing.

The race was 5k just like high school. Injury would be bad but so would hitting the wall in a short meaningless tuneup race. Hopefully it's just cramping like others have said.

Not that I wish this degree of attention on any college freshman who has or is struggling with injuries, but it would be fascinating to get a deep dive analysis on the history of her injuries and subsequent rehab and recovery strategies. This could be a really interesting series with a breakdown of any number of other injuries to well known runners, but as others have noted runners are secretive with injuries and training specifics.
