I think you should ask which gun would be best to carry before the holster. The Smith and Wesson M & P Shield or Springfield Armory Hellcat would be an OK place to start.
You're being sarcastic, but for those actually interested, I can fit my Smith & Wesson 9mm in my Adidas fanny pack. I carry when traveling for work and having to run around parts of most cities.
This is my go-to for packing some heat on the hip. The most hardened criminals shake in their boots at the sight of it.

As an owner and carrier, I would probably switch to cycling if I had to have my firearm on me while training. Even with a .22 running for an hour would be terribly uncomfortable. I know small of back is out of fashion because of spinal injury risk, but a super tight belly band with a 380 might be the only way I would try it.
I run with a Desert Eagle .50. It’s such a big gun that I’ve had a hard time finding a suitable holster for it. I use what is called a “Demon holster.” It’s not the best for running but it suffices. I really think I need to find a smaller gun for running.
Easy runs. Intervals on the track. Road races. Give your best ideas. Links help.
A 25cal. in stainless steel, loaded with hollow points, with a nylon holster. You will be pouring sweat on both. You don't want your pistol/revolver to rust. And nylon can be washed after runs. Leather, not so much. Although you can clean leather with oil.
Thank goodness I live in an area where I don't feel the need to carry. However if I did, I'd wear a shoulder holster to have faster access to it then I'd have if I put it in a fanny pack. If you run wearing a fuel belt you could maybe use that for a holster also.
I hope that you or anyone else never need to have to use a gun during a run or for that matter any other reason. But if you do, fire at center mass with two shots. It's called a double tap by military and law enforcement. The first shot might only anger your attacker, the second shot will definitely get their attention.

The irony. One person with a gun makes me feel more unsafe than anything. Saw one dude wearing his NRA shirt and a gun on his hip at a youth hockey game a few back. Look up the word "interloper". You are the dude with gun, you are the problem, because you stand out in a bad way.
Think about it gun wackos, if ONE person shows up at your church with a gun...do you celebrate the second amendment or do you keep a real close eye on that dude? If ONE dude shows up to your kids school, do you wave your black blue and white american flag? I want to see these people tazed and presumed guilty until proven otherwise. This is what's called a "you" problem.

So your average police person make you feel uncomfortable wearing a gun?
So your average police person attending church in civilian clothing scares the bejezus out of you because he /she is wearing a gun?
You should be more afraid of being out on the street after mid-night than being in church 9:00 a.m. on a Sunday morning.
I think a handgun isn't enough security, I think an armoured vehicle with at least a Browning 50 cal machine gun.
But he wants to run. Now, how is he supposed to run carrying an APC around his middle like a tutu, I'll just ask you that. And furthermore you under gunned him with the .50cal. Should have sent him out with a mini-gun with 10,000 rounds and a back-pack mortar.
