Great run from her in Berlin today. Slots her in at #14 US all-time and #4 this year, and she's only 23! Excited to see what she does next year after dropping 25 seconds from her PR this year.

Excellent run for this young rising star. Looking forward to seeing her in 2023. Go Henes!

are we celebrating mediocrity now?

We are punishing it with downvotes.

Dumping the extra baggage of Luis G has made her lighter and faster.
That's a fine performance. We should celebrate big improvements and sub-15s. She looked very strong. I would not be surprised to see another leap forward next year to 14:40 or better.

Made him faster too

I mean she beat a 5 time world/oly champion in a big PR of 14:52. Personally I'd be happy to be that mediocre.
she did not drop 25 seconds, its just 15 seconds
she ran 15:07 this year, training with 1500m runner nikki hiltz has benefited henes greatly
1. it's disgusting how they are spitting on the track
2. semenya got whooped, 2 mins slower than the winner

Her PR from last year was 15:18, so she has in fact dropped 25 (or 26) seconds from that time this year. Had the statement been "Excited to see what she does next year after dropping 25 seconds from her PR of this year." I would agree with you.
Big fan of Elly Henes and hope she can step it up to the next level. I was sad for her at US trials, but unfortunately competing in those weather conditions when you aren't the fittest is a death march

Mike Smith is coaching both of them, right?
It seems as if both of them are benefitting from the Flagstaff altitude. Hiltz now has a mile PR of 4:21.89 which is a top 15 US all-time best if only Slaney's top time is considered.
I was pretty shocked to see them run past semenya and how hulking she was. For a man to be that size and cranking out 15 minute 5ks would be impressive. Shes yolked!
What has Pete Julian done to Charlie Hunter? He's been racing all year, so presumably isn't hurt, but has been terrible.
It's strange how women distance runners get better in their 20s, and women distance swimmers do not. Look through the world records in the women's 1500 meter freestyle, which is a 15 minute race, and every world record in the past 15 years was set by a teenager, except for Ledecky with the current WR, set when she was 21 years old.
I meant, in the past 50 years. Basically always it's a teenager for that swimming race.
