Surprise entry in the Drammen half marathon this Sunday (9/4); Jakob Ingebrigtsen will make his half marathon debut, alongside his brothers Filip and Kristoffer. Could the reigning 5000m world champion get close to the Norwegian record of 59:48 (Moen, 2017) or even the European record of 59:13 (Wanders, 2019)? Start list is here:

Hes running the DL final next week, its pretty obvious he’ll just be pacing his brother. No announcements or fanfare either, when Jakob actually makes his half debut it will be a big deal
And even if he were running it all out, it wouldn't be indicative of his true half marathon potential. He's in 1500/5000 shape at the end of a very productive season.
Hes had a long season so I dont blame him. Lausanne 1500 last week and DL final next week. Not sure if any distance runners ran all 3, but I dont think so.
Even if he wins, it won't be enough to make the DL final so what's the point? He's the world and European champion over 5000, he has nothing to prove this year.
I wonder if he finishes this HM. You'd think he could run 60-61 without too much exertion that would compromise his 1500 at the DL final.
Noone serious about ever breaking the 1500 world record would race a half, even as a pacer. It's all over as far as that goes.
Yup because pacing one half marathon will suddenly destroy all his previous 1500m training and ability in a single blow. Makes perfect sense. I'd bet he'd be lucky to ever break 5min for the 1500m after that! I 🤣

Kristoffer has run 1:15, as far as I know. His goal is probably somewhere between 1:10 and 1:15. Probably not too far off from Jakob's typical Sunday 20k run.

I'm honestly curious the rational behind this post?
I mean, you wouldn't want to race a half the day or even a week before you try to break the 1500 world record...
It's a long way from 3:29 to 3:25:xx so Jakob is obviously not in world record 1500m shape right now, and at this point of the season I doubt he's building towards it.
Like seriously, what is the thought process here?!? Pure trolling or do you have some kind of point I can't wrap my head around?

I feel like his training style, which is so heavy on high volume of threshold work, means he is almost always in shape to run a really strong half marathon.

He can probably roll out of bed and run like a 62 any day of the week. Running a low 59 might be possible for him but he would need more specific training.

If you can't grasp the simple concept that training/racing long distance takes the edge off your mid-d speed, I doubt I can help you.
Even taking on 5000 seriously probably made any push for 3:25 impossible. I've seen Gjeert quoted claiming Jakob can do it, but no sign of the training focus necessary to get it done.
I wish him well but he needs to be careful. Jennifer from the office ran a 5k last year and then decided a half marathon was the next step. 7 miles in she got a hernia and hasn't been able to walk properly since.
I hope he has been carefully increasing mileage, don't be afraid to use the run/walk method if you start experiencing pain where there was no pain before.
