Interesting because it seems likely that if Komen had raced the 10000m that day that Tergat beats him and if Tergat had raced the 5000m that day that Komen beats him, although I am not 100% sure. I wonder who would have won an 8000m race that day. My money is on Komen but it could have been a classic.

OK throw Haile into the 8000m and then I think we have the makings of one of the greatest races of all time, but probably a 7:25 version of Haile wins it.

I remember watching that meet on TV (Eurosport) while I was working in southern Hungary. Summer of 1997 had some epic races and I was wondering why I didn't just jump in a car and go see one of them. Thought I'd be in Europe for years and get the change to see Komen, Geb, Kiptanui, or Tergat run a WR but I was only there for another year and then the era of WRs kind of fizzled out. I still regret not going to Zurich in 1997.
