At 200m, Lanes 4 and 5, Bolt on the outside.
Does it change if Lyles is on the outside?

Actually when I saw Noah run 19.31 I wondered the same thing. Given the competition and only being .12 seconds off over a race now we know can take a great margin of time off., I wonder, too.
Yeah, except Bolt ran into a headwind, after several 100m rounds, the 100m world record, and several 200m rounds, and had no incentive to run as hard as he possibly could from an up-and-coming 18 year old who threatened his dominance. He also ran the first 100m too hard, which hurt his latter 200m.
In short, while 2009 Bolt technically only ran .12 faster than 2022 Lyles, there'd be no contest if Bolt ran as hard as he possibly could against Lyles. He simply was more talented.
FWIW, here are their five best 200 times for each year:
Bolt, 2009:
19.19
19.57
19.59
19.68
20.25
Lyles, 2022
19.31
19.46
19.56
19.61
19.62
The 200m record adjusted with 0 wind is 19.15. Lyles had a slight bit legal tailwind , making the 19.30 a bit slower. At that speed they’re still running about 10 m/s , so at least a 1.5 m lead for Bolt. Even in 2008, with Bolt running 19.30 into a negative headwind , that adjusted time was 19.21.

Bolt would beat him, and they would both be under 19.19.
Lyles would smoke Bolt. Obviously you must understand he only went ssj2 against Knighton. If he went ssj3 against bolt that’s probably about 19.04 which is faster than bolt. Ssj4 would be sub-19 but he needs to fight majin buu for that to happen. So let’s just wait and see.
As we an see Bolt is da man at 200m.

^All of this, except for the word “talented”.
I am a nobody in the history of track, but I have lined up beside historic sprint wr-holders, knew some, etc. Each was unique, but all were different from other athletes.
Bolt was such an individual, Lyles is not.

With the new spike tech, Bolt would run 18.99
Bolt, obviously.

That 19.19 looks like a fluke. Lyles is more consistent.
has spike tech changed over the years? i assume that sprinter spikes are still just stiff plates.

Bolt managed to fluke four of the seven fastest 200m of all time (with his 19.19 and 19.30 both into headwinds).
That's next-level consistency of flukage.
Bolt.
Do they both get 2022 level testing?
Blake was in the blocks for a second, and still ran 19.26. In a championship race with a normal reaction, he could have been sub 19.
Tommie Smith,Carl Lewis and now Noah Lyles are the only sprinters in history who don't tighten up when they are behind.I see Bolt with a huge lead off the turn,Lyles closes fast but can't catch him.Bolt by a whisker.Bolt did much of his damage in the first 150 and starts to weave side to side last 50.In a 300m race,I'll definitely pick Lyles.

There have been many other than those 3–but the point that Lyles cruises well is a good one. As implied, Dolt did not. IMO he would have had a hard time against WVN in the 4 and even in the 3, WVN was ultra-smooth.
Flake’s 19.26 is the WR sans RT, but Flake was faster than Lyles is now, by a good bit.
Lyles is excellent, and is improving—and, he looks more serious. We should revisit this thread in 2023…
