Had a huge running breakthrough today. Ran 20 miles on Saturday in 2:48 and felt strong throughout. Last week I ran negative splits by feel.
44:16
42:11 (86:27 on out 10 to OSU stadium)
41:40
40:58 (82:38 on back 10 to Worthington Hills)
Ran 54, 51, 53 the past 3 weeks. Did a 1-mile shakeout yesterday, very slow, 10:30 pace, to get the legs loose and nothing else. And a little bit of gentle walking.
Did a 10-miler today, with the intent on running it EZ and steady in 90:xx or slower. I wanted to avoid looking at the watch as little as possible. Only looking at it when it beeped every mile. So ran simply by feel, listening to my heart and going from there. Intuitive running is a thing:
1. LRC told me to ditch the track workouts and build base. Did that. It's helped. My legs and feet feel strong and fine, and I'm foam rolling/stretching more. I'm in the 50-mile range and feeling good. I may go up sometime but want to get comfortable running this with no issue.
2. LRC told me to focus on my goal progression and not worry about my competition--it should just be for myself. That's huge and it's helping me just focus on where I need to be, a narrower focus on my own goals is helping me block everything else out.
Just going out and running relaxed is paying huge dividends. Even with my wrist in a removable brace today's run just felt nice and easy. I thought my watch was broken when it beeped 7:20, 7:00 toward the end of the run. Later, I checked the HR but the HR wasn't crazy high either, steady in the 155-163 range like normal. It wasn't even great weather, cloudy, but muggy and humid (73-75'F).
Ran the first 5 in 43:08, the back 5 in 37:02. The splits were 7:57, 7:20, 7:00, 7:16, 7:26. I did speed up the last 20 seconds just to see if I could break 80:00 but I was like it's cool that I didn't, not a big deal :)
The best part is that I felt like I wasn't straining at all during the run. Being able to knock 10 miles out a day in 1:18-1:25 and have it feel stupid EZ and normal is a long-term goal!
This is a sport I want to do the rest of my life even if my times slow down. I love it.
