(Or 5000 for that matter)
And first time in probably 15 years or so xD
I'm not sure what are the next races he has planned for this year, but I read only Brussels DL.
It depends what his fitness and mental prep is right now. But last year he peaked at the Olympics and never quite regained his peak for the next races he did after even though he wanted to break some records (mile?). So maybe same thing this year, he peaked for the WC, and won't managed the same peak again ?
Who knows...
reckon hes going to be too pooped

His focus this year was the WC so I doubt he’ll get any PRs this summer.
And next year his focus will be on Budapest. Then the next, the Olympics. Then another WCs. Guess forget about prs if peaking for champs.
I don't see the problem here. If he keeps winning championship medals, especially the OG, then that is what is most important. In his last 3 world champs (OG, indoors, outdoors) he has two gold, two silver, the 1500's all in pretty fast times. He also got the indoor 1500m WR as well.
He will get fewer opportunities to run really fast with all these championships, but what would you rather he do? Skip them to run in BTC-type time-trials? As long as he is winning (or at least getting medals) then all is good for him in terms of what the general public thinks, and presumably his sponsors. Depends on what HIS priorities are? If he runs fast (WR) he must be a doper anyway according to the cynical. Probably why Mo Farah didn't go after fast times as well as championship medals - he was accused of doping anyway. Sometimes difficult to have both.
Cheptegai used the pandemic and wave-light tech (no Championships) to get the WR's for 5k/10k. Gidey did as well, although until this year (doping aspersions aside) she was painted as a loser since she couldn't win a gold medal to back up those times. No pleasing everyone.
His long term goal is to be an all-time great. Maybe he wants to achieve it the Mo Farah way which is winning medals only. But if Jakob's dad is of any indication this also includes WRs (he said multiple times he sees Jakob running under 3:26).
Yep. Already got the shoes, training, and “other necessities.” No where to go but maintain fitness.
That's not an unpopular opinion. The season is nearly over.
Gjert says he'll run 3:22... doesn't make it the popular opinion.

If Jakob can run 3:22, then we must imagine Wightman can run at least a smidge faster.
This post was removed.
He did set a mile PR this year.
I think Jakob could run under 3:28 in Lausanne. It's a great field and he looked fresh in Munich. Any chance he's a late entry?

I think he ends up doing the Brussels 5K and then 1,500 DL final in Zurich. Zurich is plenty fast enough for him to potentially chase a pr there.

I really hope he does the Brussels 5,000. The two current headliners are Stanley Mburu and Oscar Chelimo so it’s be all the young guns with potentially Jakob (and the pacemaker/an older athlete) likely driving big PBs.
I’d be more interested if you made this prediction May 20 instead of August 20.

How isn't it an unpopular opinion ? In the Lausanne thread anyone who said he wasn't going to PR got more downvotes and barely any upvotes lol
The popular opinion is that everytime Jakob is running a non-championship race, he's going to PR.
Not only Jakob didn't set a new 1500 PR this year.
He didn't even break 3:29.
Sad state of affairs.

Okay, you want a little bolder prediction ?
Even next year, he won't run under 3:28.
