There’s a Jordan Horn in those results as well. Google indicates there’s a sub-4 miler by the same name who would be about the right age. Good genes. Hope the parents are chill and the kid sticks with it.

Actually, I’m thinking this is some sort of error. The athletic.net results have the kid running three 2k cross country races with times between 10:00 and 12:00 finishing way in the back less than a year before this. Thats 8+ minute pace.

The only question is he running on talent or on training. There are a lot of kids that get pushed into adult level mileage as pre-teens. They typically don't last. Something with going into calorie deficits when your bones are growing that doesn't work well long term.
Just a guess but maybe got lapped and just finished??? 4:56 at 3/4 would work out to about 6:34-6:36 which would be more in line (and still solid improvement) for someone with a 10:00 2k PR.

Yeah I’d be shocked if this wasn’t the case. Happened with my daughter of a similar age at an all comer and I let the meet organizer know they needed to nullify the result. I’ve seen it at a few other meets too. Agree it’s still solid improvement and good for the age regardless!

Prepare to be shocked. It's a road course without laps. But this result is not accurate.
doesn't look good imo. should just stick to 5k jogs with some strides and drills. early success does not equate to late game success. i've seen 9 year olds who can run sub 21 in flat 5k but can't break 17 at their prime.
imo, if you want your kid to be successful, you should probably just do 3 mile jogs throughout the week and maybe a 6 mile long run on the weekend for a total of 21 miles per week. after the run, maybe you can do some strides and drills. you need to save the intervals and high mileage for around the time they hit puberty
