Me personally as a I American I plan on becoming a expat and move to Europe. America for the average working man sucks. The US government no longer cares about the average welfare of its citizens. The average American is beyond comical of how they parody the stereotypical stupid American. I could go on, but this declining empire is just sad.
I don't think so. The world is more competitive but the US leads the way.
However, when Americans begin calling themselves a declining power, that is not a good sign.
Not an American. How do you Yankees feel about your country?
It doesn't matter how you call it, the US is on a downwards path.
If you drive through the country most parts are pretty much 3rd world. Of course people don't know that here, because they have never been anywhere else. They just listen to the same old "patriotic" propaganda.
We are all idiots that got too comfortable, so we argue and complain over things that really don’t matter or just mildly inconvenience us. Both ends of the political spectrum do this heavily, just in different ways over different things.
We are on a trajectory to see China potentially become the world superpower in my lifetime and I hate that. We are sitting around watching a country that isn’t remotely pro freedom nor race/gender equality take power while we scream at eachother over whether or not someone is allowed to call themselves a woman.
America jumped the shark in the 1950s. That’s why trumpers so desperately want to go back in time to see the doc in 1955. The thing is there’s no Delorean to take them there. They complain about Chinese manufacturing but then buy all their junk from Walmart. They complain about big ag but can’t stop their fast food addictions. America has become a nation of fat consumers that constantly complain about things but are unwilling to see the elephant in the room. Themselves!
Not at all. We're well set up for the future. Two oceans, can't be invaded, super dynamic economy, military, hard-working population, plenty of natural resources, easy access to young/growing latin American countries, energy/agriculturally independent. China will shrink and most of Europe has been stagnant. Anyone who says America is declining is just trying to push some barely veiled political grudge.

I don’t think the concern is being physically invaded by another country, it’s moreso as others have said:
We are eating ourselves from the inside out while other countries are taking advantage of this. Chinas economy is on a trajectory to overtake us, and their social reach is creeping it’s way into worldwide society.
Not to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but TikTok is owned by the Chinese government, and is destroying an entire generations attention span/ work ethic, while also collecting data on everyone that uses the app. The app is also completely destroying individuality. Moreso than ever, all the kids dress the same, talk the same, act the same and think the same. I don’t think this is an accident.

100% correct.
The facts you mentioned, plus the dominance of the US Dollar.
The USA will continue to be the only truly global power on the planet for the foreseeable future.
There is no single country that can compete with the US economically nor militarily. It's not even close and won't be for a number of years. However, the strength of our democracy is shaky at best and a significant portion of our voters support what may become authoritarianism in the next several years. If that happens the US will be significantly weakened in multiple domains.
The strongest and healthiest block in the world is the EU. Once they find the balls to deal with Orban and the goofball reactionaries in Poland, they will enjoy the advantages of liberal parliamentary democracies, strong economies, outstanding and integrated modern infrastructure, an expanded NATO coupled to an obliterated Russia, and they'll have the advantage of avoiding the authoritarian bug biting the US at this time.
China? Xi is taking down the garden path to a weird Maoist cult of personality coupled with frightening surveillance and authoritarianism.
Russia? On the cusp of collapse.
Britain? Included here because of its former status and because they were stupid enough to separate from the EU. If they were smart they would find their way back to the EU. We'll see.
As for myself, I'm waiting to see what happens with elections in the US in 2022 and 2024. If it looks like we're walzing down the path toward authoritarianism I'm going to find some other place to live. I always wondered what it felt like in Germany in the early-to-mid 1930s, how that actually happened there, but I'm afraid that I feel like I understand it more than I ever would have liked.
The world will be bipolar USA and China, and we'll see. It should work out ok since China has a massive population shrink problem, plus it is not making any friends around the world. The question you always have to ask is 'who are a nation's allies?' China doesn't really have any allies. None. North Korea sometimes.
Whereas the USA has as allies all the freest, richest, best nations on earth. So that's good.
The worry about the US is its politics...Clearly right wing politics are ripping the nation apart, as right wingers attacked Congress and have replaced muslims as the main terrorists active in North America.
And our lack of population growth and anti-immigrant swing is suicidal.
As Hardloper points out, we have a lot of natural protection and benefits. If we are defeated, it will be at our own hand.
Abe Lincoln had it right:
"All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest; with a Buonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a thousand years. "At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide."
