Always been intriqed with this island, the voodoo thing I suppose. Also that story about how a slave became their leader, talking Henri Christophe, talk about an interesting story there it is. Google with work.
Another Haitian story is that of a soccer player named Silvio Cator, in 1928 he would become the first 26 foot long jumper in history and that is still the national record. There is a stadium named after him and he can be found on a postage stamp. By the way he won the silver at the 1928 Olympics, that 26 footer somewhere else.
Bruny Surin was born in Haiti
Would like to read a book about the Caribbean and track.
Story goes back in the days of Jesse Owens Cuba had a guy named Conrado Rodriquez he was suppose to be something special, so a match race vs Owens was set up, it appears the Cuban backed out. Speaking of Cuba Silvio Leonard was the first sub10,0 Carib sprinter. Black cats with Spanish names, cool~~~
When in the Bahama's drop by Tom Robinson Stadium he was a world class sprinter (went to Michigan) back in the day, not sure about a postage stamp.
