Just looked up the remaining DL schedule and saw that there is no Mens 1500m in Monaco this year, only women. Apologies if I missed this, but whats up with that? Which DL will people chase a PR in this year?
Because anybody who is any good isn’t running Monaco because they are doing Euros or Commonwealth Games.
Interesting, thank you for that. Jake Wightman might end up being the WL with his 3:29.23 at the end of the year given this is such a championship heavy year. Would be the slowest since 2016, but we will see.
The DL (1/2 meet normal meet) concept hasn't worked out very well. The prize money is embarrassing. Most of the meets are in odd back water towns in Europe, US, Mediterranean, etc, They should go back to Golden League full meets.

Agree with this. The meets don't feel particularly connected either, does anyone care about DL standings? They need to consolidate the schedule and figure out a way to incentivize the top athletes to compete against each other repeatedly. Way too often, especially the sprints, people can get away with not racing each other outside of Championships.

With no GB, Australia, Kenya I can see why no 1500. But is the 3,000 Fisher, Grjalva, Ahmed, Ethiopians, Katir, Mechaal? The 1000 I guess you could have the Algerians, Arop, Garcia Romo, Tual, Robert. Then again unclear if the Europeans would take part.

I would have to assume that Ahmed and Arop are both going to CG.
I for one would rather see Jakob run a 7:22 3k in Monaco than race Euros, but he probably wants revenge on Wightman. I guess that rematch would be cool too.

Yup, I think THOUGHTSLEADER forgot Canada is still in the Commonwealth. I like Canada and enjoyed my vacation there until I got currency with the Queen's face on it. As a proud American, it made me feel dirty. The concept of the Commonwealth is weird to me.

Not even sure they're going to race each other at Euros. I had thought I heard that Wightman was only going to go for the 800.

The reason rankings matter in tennis is because it grants access to Grand Slams. That can be replicated in some way in athletics, for example, give the top 8-10 in each event direct entry to the World Champs or Olympic Games without having to qualify via their national governing bodies or hit specific qualifying standards. Athletes then have an option of competing consistently or risking it on their national trials
Because once again Jakob doesn't want to go for a world record this year.
Next year something else will come up that he won't try to break the WR. Realistically it could only happen at Monaco, where lots of elites run PR - 2.
I would have to assume that Ahmed and Arop are both going to CG.

Or cause he has seen Canada's named team for ComGames and noticed neither Arop or Ahmed are on it. They would rather focus on a DL season and I can't blame them. As a Canadian the concept or the Commonwealth let alone the Com Games is weird to me.
