I found Kerley's post race celebration a bit peculiar, where he went round the track high five-ing fans, posing for picture, taking selfies with anyone who asked a bit odd given his introverted disposition.
But now it makes a bit of sense.
Tim Layden in the story on front page says that Bolt and Kerley communicate regularly even calling Bolt a mentor to Kerley. I guess Kerley has been anointed the heir apparent. Bolt even has a congratulatory tweet on his twitter feed to Kerley. None was offered to Jacobs after his Tokyo win.
And it is notable that Bolt’s manager, Ricky Simms, is also Kerley’s manager. “They communicate all the time,” says Simms. “Usain has really been a great mentor to Fred.”
