Surely it’s not because the rules are so straightforward! They definitely can explain why a popular, future NFL player, fastest in the world in their event runner was dq’d for complete BS
I don’t even know why I watch sometimes. Feel so bad for Devon
Yeah thats it, the popularity of the sports has fallen for decades now because of something that just happened tonight.
An American DQ’ed. The American public who stayed away from Eugene this week must have known this would happen 🙄
Just an example of why the sport is faltering. In the NFL, MLB, etc, rules are transparent and officials comment on why they made the decision. And the American who was dq’d happens to be one of the best known track athletes

Soccer is BY FAR the largest global sports and rules are a mess, anything but transparent always have been.
Strangely just as bad with the introduction of technology and VAR.
The reason you are given is NOT why T&F lacks popularity.

This rule is about as transparent as one can get. Using an electronic system, there is a cut off limit and anyone out before it is disqualified - no explanation required.
I prefer giving the field one false start before a DQ, but the current system is as fair as one can get.

Sure hope Abby Steiner, 400hurdlers, Noah Lyles vs Errion Knighton, the 4x1's, the 4x4's deliver the goods. Fred Kerley always has.
Loving the meet, and there seems to be a lot of others there in Eugene who are also.
I don't see any problems, far more to this than one hurdles race.
I don't think it's because of false starts. It's one aspect of track people are familiar with. The Allen situation really sucks, but apparently it's more than that - the death of the sport, America, and hope for the future.

One a positive note: The Marathon course might have been the most scenic ever in a global championship - I loved how it covered everthing from downtown to countryside (or at least seemed too) - soo much green on the sides! :-)
