This was a disgrace. Should have been an easy gold on home soil but they put in the D-team.

Embarrassing
Utterly embarrassing... can someone clue me into the strategy. Is the Dominican Republic and the Netherlands putting their two best men and two best women on their teams, which can beat like the what would be at best America's 5+6 best man and 5+6 best women (if you put the best runners not running the final of the single gender 4x4's
But at least the world knows that Allyson Felix is a mom.
Question is, if USATF asked the "A team" to run this before their own individual events had happened, would they have said yes?
Our anchor looked like she didn’t even want to be there!!
No results yet on WA for me?
I have no video feed but aren't the results live? Like DL meets?
The problem is that the US women are not strong this year.
The 400m runners are in the individual race and the 4 x 400. And our best are 400 hurdlers who have serious challenges.
I agree that the team blew it. But other than Wadeline Jonathas, who finished 4th at U.S. trials, who would you replace and of the other women with? Because of the new rule, Sydney, Athing, or Dalilah would have had to run mixed relay semis and finals, all the rounds of their individual races, AND possibly the women's final 4x400. I don't know who you put in.

whats this new rule about having to run in semis and finals?
You can't replace runners. So those who run in the semis have to run in the finals. So because Simon ran in the semis, no one could have replaced her in the final.
Was going to start a thread on this. What a joke. The Dominican women and Dutch ran some great legs, but USA should have put out a better team to make a statement and get a gold on the first day. Sure, keep Felix for the story line and her usual clutch performances. But we have a half dozen better women runners and could have swapped out one of them for the inexperienced Simon.

You can replace one runner. Femke Bol did not run in the semis and was fresh for the finals.

Not true. Please get your facts straight. Felix didn't run the morning heats. Replaced Wadeline.

Even Felix’s daughter was upset about that race!
Our anchor… running on the rail down the homestretch cost at least one podium spot. It hurt to watch.

Femke Bol, Felix and numerous others replaced others. Our men ran fine, they in fact beat the next best unit of men by 2.2 seconds. With Steiner, Mu, or McLaughlin that is an easy victory.
I mis-spoke. You can only make one sub.

Felix only ran in the final. Bol only ran in the final. They both replaced other runners from the semis.

Simon in the semis and Jonathas in the finals. Or depending on how long until their event, we could have asked individuals in the 400m, 400mH, 800, or even Abby Steiner to run the anchor leg.
