First off English isn't my first language so forgive any mistakes on wording.
Seems like most exercises such as deadlifts and hip thrusts are counter intuitive to running. For deadlifting you're taught to put your weight on your heels and to push the hips forward, whereas while running you don't want to land on the heel and you want the hips to stay behind the chest (as demonstrated by guys like J Ingebrigtsen and Tim Cheriyout).
I'm starting to run at a D1 school and seems like my strength coach (and from what I've heard, weight coaches at other D1 schools) have mix of a powerlifting and football philosophy when it comes to weight training. I've noticed I do similar weight exercises as the football players and powerlifters back in my home country, whereas they don't even run 1 km continuously to train for their sport. It seems like bodyweight/light weight drills emphasizing single leg stability would be best for distance running, since you only run with one leg on the ground at a time. As far as I know the African runners don't have rigorous weight lifting programs like the top American runners, and they get injured less often.
