In this video (timestamped), Newbury Park's coach, Sean Brosnan, said that his top guys are doing 4+ miles of the classic Prefontaine/Oregon 30/40 workout. For the uninitiated, the 30/40 workout is where you run a 30 second 200 followed by a 40 second 200 with no rest, for as long as you can. In the video, Apparently Mike Smith thought Brosnan was crazy when Brosnan told him Nico was doing over 4 miles of it, and it surprised me too. Anyone else have any thoughts on it?
I read that when Rupp was at Oregon, he did 6 miles before he got pulled off the track. Pre's record was 5 I think. All the great Oregon runners from Pre to Rupp to Centro, and probably Hocker and Teare ran the workout during their time at Oregon. Seems kinda crazy to think high schoolers can do over 4 miles of it.
