Hassan, who tripled in Tokyo, hasn't raced all year but coach Tim Rowberry said the last two months of training have gone well after a rough start to 2022. *MB: Sifan Hassan is entered in 3 events at Worlds, will race 2 and i...
Fabulous news. A 5/10 double seems likely. I can't imagine Hassan has any appetite for another silver or bronze in the 15. That said, if her recent training indicates she can take down Kipyegon...blimey.
I know there is a lot of Hassan hate on these boards, but to me she is one of the top 5 distance runners ever, man or woman, and the sport is far greater for her presence. I don’t think there has ever been anybody with her range, nor her athletic courage. What man has been world class at the 800 and hold the 10000 world record? She takes on unheard of doubles and triples at major championships, and she ho hum about it. Basically, she’s rather die trying than to not try at all. My favorite moments of the last Olympics where when she was so pissed she lost the 1500, that’s when she KNEW she would win the 10000. The 10000 in Tokyo was epic and she looked like she was near death at the end. She broke down the goat 10000 runner Gidey, just shattered her into pieces. Hassan is a giant of the sport and the WC is lucky to have her. If she’s on the line, my money is on her to win.

Closest man is Mo Farah, and he gets a lot of hate on here as well
Hopefully H is close to top fitness. She can even win medals at 85% of fitness. Gidey lacks speed at the end of a race, the only way she can win gold is running a very fast TT.

You must not have watched the Ethiopian 10,000 trials.

The one Eilish McColgan won by 30 seconds? ;)
Lol, that was a separate race. In the Ethiopian trials, Gidey outkicked everyone. Granted, Hassan is on a different level when she's on. But I think there might just not be a perfect strat to beat her. It's a mistake to say Gidey can't kick or finish hard, though. She just often doesn't try that tactic. It worked in the Hengelo race for her.

Genuine question. Why does Sifan Hassan get more of a pass than Mo Farah? Imagine if Moh Farah won the 10000/1500 double. He wins the 10 in just sub 27, closing the last 1500 in under 3:32. He then turns around and beats Kiprop (EPO version), Manangoi, Centrowitz and Makhloufi, front running a 3:27. Thats the male equivalent of what Hassan did in Doha, let alone Tokyo.
In Doha her coach was Salazar, so the "she improved under a new coach" (Rowberry, leaving aside Rowberry's own relationship with Alberto) isn't relevant. Is it just because she ran 3:56 before Alberto so the 3:51 jump is more believable than Farah's?
This isn't meant to be a gotcha, or a screw Hassan post. It's just that if Farah did what Hassan did in 2019 this website would crash.

She was a brighter prospect than Farah pre-Salazar, yes with a 3:56.05 PB, 4 DL wins, Worlds bronze behind Dibaba/Kipyegon. She doesn't have the dodgy Jama Aden associations, doorbell incident, or L-caritine injections lies. Also, she's been in the AIU RTP basically her entire career and thrived as it's taken hold more prominently (2018-present). According to Craig Engels, she is tested a ton (multiple times on each team altitude trip). Your mileage will vary if you think he's exaggerating. I just checked and Mo has actually been removed from the testing pool as presumably they deem him sub-elite at this point.

I’m certainly not an expert, but it’s seems to me clear that the totality of Farah’s behavior with infusions, lying to investigators and issues with his biological passport are far more suspicious than events swirling around Hassan. Also, when Farah and Salazar parted ways, that was the end of Farah being a dominant force. Hassan has only continued to impress and amaze long after her relationship with Salazar ended. Please correct me if I’m way off about any of this. Unlike others, I cannot cite chapter and verse all of Farah’s questionable behavior.

You are correct for sure on most points. One clarification: both of them in the Fancy Bears hack did attract some scrutiny, though both were cleared evidently. We don't know if Hassan was ever designated as "Likely Doping" based on her ABP like Farah was, but we do know both had the "Passport Suspicious" label at least.
