Jeezus - imagine having to line up for the biggest race of the year 24 hours after your Dad passing. Dude must be tough as nails to suffer such a massive loss and still find the ability to focus and quality for worlds. Mourning for Devon Allen right now and hoping he and his family can find some peace.

His dad was only 63, that sucks. Allen has always been a class act, hate to see this for him, total bummer. Of course he did what studs do he sucked it up and delivered,,,,,anyway.

So sorry to hear this. Very hard to block that out and compete like he did, I wish him the very best at Worlds.
OMG she smoked weed??? We should give her the electric chair....actually we should give her life in prison and then the electric chair!!! Throw her in solitary confinement too. I can't believe she would smoke weed, can you imagine the damage to society, she probably ruined her body too and will never ever be the same. Weed is the worst drug ever and she clearly had an insane advantage over her competitors. How is she still a free woman after smoking weed? Outrageous.
This response seems a bit triggered...
That being said, everyone response to grief in a different way. I think most can agree that Devon's ability to compete well at the highest level in spite of his father's recent passing would not be typical.
I don't think it's fair to compare how SR and DA coped with the loss of a parent prior to a big race anymore than it would be fair to compare how much two people cried over the same person's death.
People already can feel guilty for being too affected and by not being affected enough by someone's death. Passing judgement on how other's grieve isn't fair. What purpose does passing such judgement serve anyway?
Are we sure that Devon even knew about his dad's death? It's possible his mom didn't tell him, right? Does anyone have the meet taped? I can't find Sunday's recording and I thought they interviewed him and he didn't mention it.
We sat right behind Mr. Allen and his family at Hayward during the 2016 Trials. They were all super friendly people and we shared some great conversation and laughs. Devon (and his friend from Texas A&M) came up and sat with them for a while, as well.
I remember at one point, Devon calling my mother "Ma'am" and my mother saying "You don't need to call me that, please call me (her name)". Maybe ten seconds later he did it again and said "Ma'am" and then quickly remembered and used her name. My mom looked at his parents and said "You raised a respectful young man, even if he doesn't listen" and everyone got a good laugh out of it.
RIP Mr. Allen.
On a related note, is Devon Allen still living/training in Annapolis, MD? That's a beautiful town and a really nice place to visit for a weekend (or retire to, but it's not cheap).

This article suggest that they didn't tell him.
"Bernadette Allen, Louis' wife, confirmed her husband's death in a direct message on social media on Saturday night but asked to wait until after the weekend to release the news.
"I am at a loss for words at this time," she said.
She said that Louis was not feeling well the last few weeks, but kept it from his son to not distract him while he was getting ready to qualify for the world championships this past weekend at the USA Track and Field championships in Eugene."
