Interesting move given all his success at Notre Dame and that Tennessee hasn’t had a great distance program recently (haven’t made NCAAs in xc in 12 years. Heard they were shelling out big $$$
Director of Cross-Country and Distance? We are just making up titles now. So does he get his own cross country scholarships and is independent of Duane Ross?
Tennessee men just took 3rd at the NCAA meet without distance. SMH....
Newsflash.....they are already great in track...they took 3rd yesterday.
21 out of 34 points came from field events (13 points were from Ashe and 4x1).
You could have Harding, Ross, etc coming with Duane from NCA&T, as well as Notre Dame distance recruits with Carlson. That third place could be a title next year
Is this a promotion or demotion? Seems like an odd move to me but maybe the pay is radically different. And I would rather live in Knoxville than south bend...

I’m sure they won’t come across scholarship issue with retaining a 3rd place team and bringing in everyone you just listed….

Of course there would be issues. But those names I gave are hypothetical, as well as there are 6-7 seniors on the track team, as well as some athletes will leave with the coaching change, etc. Ross might go pro, Javonte might stay in NC, ND athletes may not want to leave a great school. But there will be movement one way or another. Ross and Carlson have been great recruiters, so that mixed with returning scorers from NC's bode well for UT......
Wow. There were rumors of this, which is why ND bumped Carlson's position and pay up a couple months ago. Still... the culture of ND and Tennessee are SO different in academics, size (UT is 3 times the size), and as they say at ND, "God and family." I don't see why runners who chose the SCHOOL, would want to leave. In addition to one of the top distance classes coming in next year, note that ND has distance transfers coming in next year from Stanford and the Ivies. I don't think they'd want to go to Knoxville. ND will have to bring in a top-notch distance coach to keep it rolling. Jerry Schumacher will have two of his sons running for ND next year... Hmmm, one can dream about him coming back to the Midwest.
I would hope no ND runner would forgo an ND degree to run UT, regardless of the coaching situations. Perhaps a grad transfer, but even then a Masters from ND is a value far superior to a degree from UT. Carlson’s whole schtick in recruiting and building the program was about ND being the best athletics and academic combo in the country. Fair play to him if he wants to leave for money or any other reason, but he would reveal himself to be a self-serving used car salesman if he attempted to persuade athletes to follow him.
“Hey guys, remember when I told you ND was the best place for a great education and athletics experience that will set you up for the rest of your life? Just kidding, walking on to Tennessee and hoping NIL money doesn’t dry up is the actual best thing for you. “

That institution doesn’t have near the pitch angle in recruiting as ND does.
Regardless, BAS, her assistants, and her student athletes were done wrong. I commend them for finishing 3rd yesterday (and indoors). To announce Ross the day before East Prelims and Carlson the day of your distance runner’s race is disgusting and shallow administrative work by Tennessee Athletics. No wonder they hired a drug cheat (in Ross) and the ego-heavy Carlson. Wow.

All the buzz at NCAA’s was that he does have separate budget and scholarships from Ross. So no, the title is not made up. Totally new model UT is going with
