I just saw the video and it looked like they went down the road for a couple of minutes and then back so it looks like they lost at least three minutes but could anybody confirm? Thank you.

Perhaps our man in Sweden, Coach JS, who may have been in attendance at this race could give us his word on what happened and how many minutes were lost?
The winner has a best time of 2:06:13, from 2017. Second placer also has a best time of 2:06:33. Third placer has a best time of 207 and change. So it looks like they were definitely short changed timewise in this marathon. Could someone who knows Swedish translate from the YouTube soundtrack? Thank you.
The weather did look hot though so I’m not sure they would’ve achieved their best times - probably not.
Sammy Russom: Marathon
2:09:36
København (DEN)
15 MAY 2022
Sammy Russom, Eritrea: The guy who finished fifth in this race posted this time in Copenhagen just three weeks ago! Impressive powers of recovery. Had the course been accurate he might’ve posted two sub 2:10:00 marathons within three weeks.
They followed the police motorcycles who went the wrong way, lost 2-3 minutes. Was on track to a new course record.

Thank you for the follow up and could you tell us how many of the elite runners were affected by this unfortunate incident?

They ran 650m too far according to the organizers. It happened when the lead car had to take a detour because of a narrow tunnel and the runners were not clearly notified that they should not follow it.
I don't think Russom ran the wrong way as he was dropped before that and later was passed by the guys who did.
The winner will get the course record bonus as compensation.
They lost about two minutes. The leader car took another way than the race because it was to narrow for a car at one place. The leader runners followed.
He was not one of the runners who was fooled to run in the wrong direction. He ran the accurate route.
Thank you for your response.
And thank you also for your response. This means the leading runners might have ran around 209 is that correct? I think Stockholm has a reputation for being quite a tough course with some hills? I recall it in my club in England at the time around 1985 David Clarke who was the national cross country champion in England with best times of 1322 and 2756 (5000/10,000), won the Stockholm Marathon in the early 80s in around 2:13:00. Of course this was long before the super shoe era so teleported to this era I think that David Clarke would’ve possibly been a marathon runner with possible times in the 207 to 209 bracket.
David Clarke, Hercules Wimbledon legend, and former winner of the Stockholm marathon.
The runners went into an underpass that was too small for the official time keeping car to navigate. The police motorcycle who was travelling with the car, stayed in front of the leading runners. The time keeping car was to meet them on the other side of the underpass but, for whatever reason, didn’t make it to the point on time (irony). The police motorcycle wasn’t expecting to be the tour guide, so didn’t know the course. The runners followed the motorcyclist, who was probably heading for the nearest donut shop by then.

Stockholm also has a lot of sharp turns. The entire race is run in the inner city with a one lap course. Imagine if New York marathon would be run only on Manhattan.
If only they'd lost 18 more minutes and that British guy in 15th could have finished 12th.... :-) :-) :-)
Really tough course and tough to run the extra 650m as well, really strong times considering from those 3 (1st,2nd and 4th).
Highly recommend the race, especially the elite entry and perks albeit not a PB course, I struggled out there!
