Had a great last lap and probably could’ve caught Zach Ayers if he didn’t have so much ground to make up. Pretty happy for the guy, must feel good to move a little out of the shadow of the Sahlmans and Youngs.

Who would have thought he would be NP's highest placing finisher today - male or female?
Because of his teammates he was never in the hunt to win races, I never knew he could kick like that. I could see him becoming a dominant D2 long distance runner at Mines.
Appleford is one tough kid. I admire his determination throughout the season , never giving up. He’s going to be successful in anything he does in life. He deserves the Newbury Park MVP runner. Tough as nails. Congratulations to him

With your first 2 sentences, didn’t you describe just about every good distance runner? He ran 8:56 last year and knows he has a good chance of receiving a scholarship, which should motivate any runner.
He scored more points than the Sahlman who got 4th in the 800.
Appleford trash talked Sahlman the whole ride home, that he'd get '22 nbp MVP award for scoring most team points at historic CIS St meet. No points at pre, running lane or brooks.

So, second at CIF earns you a scholarship to div 2?

Winner, Zachary Ayers going to Air Force. Another great recruit for Air Force. Joining Freshman Bryce Lentz (8:39 steeple).
I respect his decision to go D2 at Mines - I was seriously considering going there but couldn't afford the out of state tuition, great school if you want to be an engineer.

I’ve found that there are a lot of good distance runners who aren’t tough, but just very talented. If they were tougher (physically and mentally) they’d be a lot better distance runners.

And your point is? I don’t know why Brosnan had Aaron run the 800m as it’s not his best distance. I believe he could have won the 1600m and/or the 3200m instead. Brosnan seems to dig the 800. Was that his race when he was in school?

Maybe he thought Aaron was past his peak aerobically so it would be better to cut the mileage, add speed, and train for the 800 instead?
Aaron wanted to do the 8. Brosnan has publicly said he wishes Aaron would just train for the mile with the others, but as his coach its his duty to train him for whichever event he wants to run.
This brings up what some view about Brosnan- that he is this control freak that moves his athletes around like puppets on a string. Fact is these kids have strong personalities and opinions and any decisions are made with input from all concerned.

How do you all know how decisions are made? Unless you are the coach or the athlete you are completely speculating how things run and decisions are made.
