In looking for links for the front page, I came across an article from Fast Running onot he new Irish 800 record holder Louise Shanahan that included the following line, "Louise admits that she did not see much improvement in her running between the ages of 16 and 22 but she never gave up."
I decided to look up what she did in those years and it's crazy.
Every year, from age 16 to age 21, tilastapaja lists her seasonal best in the 800 as 2:08.
2013 2:08.75
2014 2:08.29
2015 2:08.15
2016 2:08.43
2017 2:08.04
2018 2:08.56
Now she's run 1:59.42. Wow.
A friend of mine who has extensive coaching experience said we need to teach young phenoms that often they will plateau but if they can stick with it, there could be an improvement down the road.
