Ingoring the shoe difference and only looking at their junior years, absolutely '23. Its not even close. Only if you remove the Newbury boys does it become fairer. Without A,L,&L the class of 2020 looks a bit better. Side not, why isnt '22 in this convo? They seem to be the deepest class ever so far.
Next year he should be able to break not only Rupp's 5K HS Record, but Chapas' 10K HS Record as well. Could even do it this year potentially.
The 10000m OT qualifying time of 28:40 in 1976 was considered to be soft, so Hulst, McChesney and Chapa all gave it a shot. Running a 10000m is not a good fit for a HS season which why they still rank 1-3 on the all-time list.
Kidd was 18 yo and it was in ‘62 that he ran 13:43.8. The WR was 13:35 at the time.
Very impressive. I don't think anyone thinks that Lex has done anything here that no one has ever done before. Lex is younger than Kidd but there is precedent for this level of performance at his age. We never know the age of Kenyans but they have 18 year olds running low 13s, probably faster. It's not hard to image they have runners this fast at this age. But this is up there with the best. At least in American distance running. These three kids could run some insane $hit next year.
Newberry Park side note: Sam McDonald just became the first girl in CIF history to make the finals of the 800,1600,3200. Looked really good yesterday winning her heat in 2:10 and cruising 10:4x behind Fries.

She'll probably drop one of the three for CIF SS D1 finals. My guess is she'll run 800/1600.

Her injury this winter turned out to be a blessing. Had she kept training without a break a raced those winter and early spring meets like the rest of her team, she probably would look like Doshi, Cantu, Martinez, and Sax; crispy fried burnt. But hey, tripling 3 weeks in a row can get her caught up with them in short order. They all sure looked impressive at the Sundown meets. Masterful peaking job!

That's what Sam McDonnell said on Instagram, but that doesn't seem accurate. There have been plenty of other California girls over the years as good as, or better, than her.
Maybe she means in her section, and isn't talking about all the sections in the state.

Now that Dalia Frias has been eliminated in the 3200, I wonder if that will change Sam McDonnell mind about which events to run going forward?
