Love Fred Kerley, but I am willing to take this bet. Sprinting is more than numbers on a screen. As BJ Penn just said on Rogan, there's a difference between training and a spontaneous fight and saying, "meet me the playground tomorrow night, 6PM, fight in front of the whole school" and then going home and thinking about it. Those intangibles factor into play here.
I love the fact that Fred Kerley dreams big. Running 9.57 is not something I can imagine happening. But if he imagines it, maybe he'll run 9.70. Who knows? You have to dream big to do it.
There is a theoretical limit to how much progress you can make at a certain age and it is based simply on your age and how much time you have left in the sport. Kerley is at his peak age wise and right now his PR is 9.84; if he breaks 9.80 that would be a normal progression. If he got down to 9.74, that would be great. Breaking 9.70 is almost inconceivable, which is still a long way from 9.57. There are only about 10 men in history that have run 9.7x or better and they all were much faster than Kerley at a much younger age. - This is coming from someone who is a Kerley fan and thinks he can run faster, but you have to be realistic. I think he has underperformed in the 200m, that is where he has the most upside.

Notwithstanding FloJo who went from 11.0 to 10.54 and Shericka Jackson who went from 11.13 to 10.76 at around Kerley's age. I think both of those are unique circumstances.
Rae is one of them “stupids” he’s always talking about in his videos. If he’s going to go all in on being ridiculous why not just say the US men’s 4x1 team will actually complete 3 passes at Worlds.

FloJo was drugged out of her mind, so that's a bad example of a sprinter getting better in their late 20s.
