How effective did hills help you in training for a half/full?
I recently found a hill in Columbus, off the infamous Olentangy Trail, to improve my strength. It's 0.25-miles up, short but steep, and paved. I was able to do 10 of them up, with 10 jog recoveries down. 10 reps up and down is about 3 miles total (24:39).
I didn't go all-out but steady, focused on form and turnover, and left feeling like I could have done 1-2 more reps. I'm planning to hill training more frequently than my last 2 cycles. Some runners told me hills even sort out imbalances to an extent and help your form quickly.
Even though the races I'm training for (Emerald City 13.1 in August and Columbus 26.2 in October) are generally flat, I'm seeing that I can improve my overall strength with hills, mile repeats, core workouts (and maybe some yoga).
I'd love to do altitude training out west someday to see how that would help too.
