They hardly race and show up all the time when it counts. I think that's a great long term approach. Racing every weekend like most High School teams is not a smarter way to do things. A few boys going to NY a few times is not anymore travel then other top programs that go to Arcadia and indoor nationals.
"Where they are now" Their girls are running amazing as are the boys. I think they are good. breaking records and running the fastest times in the country is a good thing not a bad thing. It's the teams that race, race, race, race ,race and then race you should worry about.
If they decide to skip the California state meet then good for them for doing what is best for them and not what you want them to do. Only they know whats best.
This has nothing to do with a coaches ego. A coach With a ego would destroy his runners to win every meet and championships with not regard to his athletes health or well being. Newbury Park has a totally different approach then most High Schools and I would say that's why they are so successful. They are actually the most successful distance program ever in High School.
