Let's say you're at a bus stop and someone is cursing. Should you tell them to watch their language?
Yes you should - with an even more obscene fusillade of your own.
Just kidding! Seriously, if there are kids around, gently point that out and ask them to keep the language PG. I’ve seen it work with teenagers before. Sometimes they even look ashamed for a second.
Think about it. Someone who does that usually has no idea, or cares, what manners are. They will probably direct it at you or worse. You can say something but beware.
If you are offended by people cursing, I assume you must have the weakest brain on the planet. There are very few settings in adult life where you won’t be exposed to people cursing.

1st amendment
Freedom of speech and expression
The first amendment has nothing to do with cursing. Walk into any restaurant and curse loudly and repeatedly, and they will throw you out. No court will hear your case on free speech grounds.

Yeah if you want to start a fight. This happened to me few months back actually. out to dinner with my wife at a live music / bar / restaurant type place.
I curse all the time when I’m talking. Well a woman decided to interrupt my wife and I to tell us to stop swearing. She got shut down very quickly by my wife and I. My response was “excuse me? Do not speak another word to me”. Started to get heated. The waitress overheard and the manager came out and moved the woman and her friend(who was clearly embarrassed) to a new table. Both the waitress and manager came over and apologized to us.
Unless we are at church, don’t tell me how to talk or we are going to fight.

Not that easy, first thing you do is look around at who is being offended, if women and children then you check out the big mouth looking for weapons. If you think telling this punk to shut up will work then it's.......hey stupid, shut up. Being prepared to handle this punk. IF.....you have doubts you can deal with him then you are stuck, don't do something stupid.
A lot of freaks out there today, got to be real careful who you mess with. Had a gun pulled on me a few months ago before the guy realized he had the wrong guy. This was at a Mini Mart parking lot walking back to my truck.
There is no such thing as ‘cursing’ in XXI century. Even the term ‘obscene language’ is kind of dated. Literature and cinema have been using swear words without any sort of holding back for half a century now.
Being offended by language is like wearing suit and tie to work. It’s very surprising how so many people still do that. I find it hard to get along with either kind.
I think what I’m learning here is that the world is full of foul mouthed individuals who care nothing at all for whether children or other sensitive people are exposed to their obscenity. That’s too bad.
I think it's appropriate to re-direct someone if they are cursing in front of kids or women. That being said, you gotta judge the situation and pick your battles wisely.
