Huge time for OTC's Paulsen with a 3:33 also. Big breakthrough for him
Dude has been racing a lot at a high level. Good for him he’s a talent. Just watched his final workout earlier in the week and I was telling my wife, “guy is jogging this”
That’s an NCAA record taking down Nuguse’s mark right?
Feels like a huge long shot for him to represent Kenya, though. Big PB for Paulson on Canada at 3:33.9 for second
24 year old “sophomore”
I've never seen this many sub 3:40s at a single meet. Ridiculous

Kipsang closed like a freight train! Paulson ran a courageous race and lead until the last 15-20 meters.

Follow up to this post. In 2016 guess how many guys ran under 3:40 over the whole NCAA season?
...5
Interested in splits if anyone has
Only splits I was able to see/hear 39 and 1:54 . But those were the rabbit. Kipsang probably hit 1:55.

Shaq Walker (800m) is the only one I can recall in recent memory.

30 under 3:40, 54 under 4 flat mile converted to 1500m (3:42.7). Kipsang is an enigma. He has looked like a guy who could run very, very fast but couldn't do it, until now. 3:33. Very impressive. NAU had 3:36 (Nur), 3:37 (Kusche and Young), and 3:39 (Bosley), plus three other sub-14 guys in the 5000 (13:42 (Hasty), 13:51 (Raff), 13:57 (Grotenhuis)). Also, 8 guys broke 13:30 in the 5000m (second heat had 13:34 winning). A bit of a surprise to see Brian Fay win in 13:16 over Beadlescomb, the 3:52 miler, and a host of other good ones.
The prime time race should have been run after 8pm. There were 6-7 mph winds during that race. The wind really dies down after 8 here.

The only older BYU runners (two years older than peers) are those that go on missions and don't run for two years. If I were to venture a guess, I would say Kipsang did not take a two-year break from running. Big difference.
As for the black comment, what are you trying to get at? BYU's team mostly draws from local talent, which is predominantly white, so that's to be expected. Do you think it's weird that universities from South Texas have a disproportionately high percentage of Hispanic runners relative to the rest of the country?

All Kenyan ages are lies. Easily 30+
Well deserved! He’s an absolute monster and one of the most humble guys out there! I hope he runs well the rest of the season and stays healthy. He’s so smooth on the track. Can’t wait to see the video!!
