That is pretty fast. George Harrison could not sniff that kind of time.
Neither could Harrison Bergeron, ha ha ha ha ha.
Honestly despite his height and weight, I bet Bergeron COULD run low 1:40s. I mean, a 50” opening quarter would feel like a jog to someone who can defy gravity while dancing.

If you read the story you would know he was an absolute freak and could have ran 1:39 in the right conditions.
HSers are crazy this year. We need Sumner vs Flatt vs Harrison in the 800 & NP vs Gary Martin & Zane Bergen in the mile. Hope we get it at Brooks PR and people dont duck each other.
Wasn't this guy a Tinman trained athlete? Is he still coached by Tinman?
Yes. I talked to Tom last week. The kid is a total stud. Yes I know his miles times have "stagnated" but he was in sick shape last year and didn't get the chance to really race because of Covid. looks like he's getting back to similar shape this year.
From what I understand, he doesn't get the chance to race many open/invite races as he still runs for his local HS team (I think that's a VERY wise parenting decision) and his school district has a bunch of 1950s rules about competing out of state and what not.
How many HSers are going to break 4:00 this year? I think it's going to be a lot. What's the most in a single year?

I’ve read it a few times and I’m glad you had the guts to say 1:39 because honestly that’s what I was thinking. And you’ve got to think George Harrison could have at least bettered Coe’s 1:41.73 NR, since we on LetsRun accept that all the truly talented runners gravitate toward football, basketball or joining rock and roll bands.
As for Rheinhardt, I don’t think this performance means he’s an 800 guy, I think it indicates he has the prerequisite speed to be a national class 1500 runner after a few years at Oregon, and I won’t be surprised if he runs 3:57y in the next 2 months.

It sure sounds as if George was part of a triumphant relay team.
It was May 11, 1965. The Beatles were on location, wrapping up filming their second movie “Help!” The “Help!” director, Richard Lester, was to film a few atmosphere and scenery shots in London the next day, and after that, th...
Dude honestly might be more of an 800m guy that’s good at the mile. I consider 1:48 better than 4:00.
Crazy performance. Is that a 2 second PR?
Like you said it was a 2 sec pr, obviously rounding into top shape and you can’t compare his new 800 pr to his existing mile pr. If he had run the mile with some comp today on fresh legs would he have dropped his mile pr too? Comparing prs isn’t a seesaw. You can’t “necessarily” wait for the next pr then compare it to an older one to say he’s better at a distance.

I think it was 2 in both 2015 and 2016: Fisher and Maton, and Hunter and Slagowski.
This year there could legitimately be 10. Indoors, there were 7 guys under 4:05 (6 under 4:03), and now the 3 NP kids who didn't race a mile indoors have run 4:00, 4:04, and 4:05.00. The last time there was this kind of depth was 2017 (12 under 4:05), and 7 of those came came in June. This year, there were 9 before April even started.
I doubt there's gonna be 10 this year, but I'd bet money that at least 3 kids break it this year. Colin Sahlman's already done it, and there's already 2 kids at 4:00. I put the over/under at 5. At least 2 more NP kids will do it, along with Harrison and Martin.
As of last fall, he still held the FLYRA state xc meet record, which goes up through eighth grade, and this year he broke his second state hs xc record, in addition to having run 4:01 just before his junior year. Tinman came on the site to defend him after someone was claiming that he had regressed. In Florida, in order to compete at the state championships, you have to run at least 7 meets prior to that. Five meets to be allowed to run in districts, then you have to qualify at districts and regionals to get to states. The five meets probably have to be FHSAA meets. So, there's not a lot of room there to compete out of state. 1:48.05 solo is absolutely flying. Flatt's a second ahead of him now. Sumner's run 1:48.14 indoors. If Harrison gives the 800 a go in June, we could well see three sub 1:47s this year, making this the highest quality 800 year ever. I fully expect a sub-4 from Harrison as well, given the kind of shape he is in. I note too from the training videos that used to be posted on this website from probably 2021 that he was doing some very quick 400m reps, 56 and faster, so he clearly has repeatable speed and will make a great miler. No pressure.
