So last night I was talking to a great friend who always has outside the box thoughts and I said something along the lines of, "What the F is going on. Humanity has never had it so easy. There is so much wealth, cars, air conditioning, clean water, internet, etc. and yet so many people are debilitated by anxiety, depression, etc. What's going on? What was it like 300 years ago when life was so much harder?"
My friend replied, "300 years ago, you were too tired to be depressed, anxious, etc. Do you remember when we were running a ton what it's like to be truly tired at the end of the day?"
I thought it was a brilliant point.
Then tonight, as I'm working on the homepage, I come across a recent TedTalk from running coach Jason Karp where he basically supported her point. He said the following:
"Whether you are a mouse or a human, a sound body creates a sound mind..
"People tend to think that the brain sits atop the pyramid, controlling the body, but it's actually the other way around. The body is the CEO and the brain is the COO. While your brain controls your body's control operation, it works in service of your body. That's what it evolved to do. You brain evolved from your body's movements to regulate your body and to manage it's physiology so that it can efficiently move and interact with the world around you."
Do you agree or not?
