That’s not even a good Clapton. Now Layla, that could in the running for best song.
Layla by Derek and the Dominoes is probably the best representation of vintage Clapton...agreed...only to flex by slowing it down in 1992...and another hit.

These are in the running for the greatest rock song ever (in no particular order):

Foreplay/Long Time by Boston
Dream On by Aerosmith
Black Dog Led Zeppelin
Tom Sawyer by Rush
Sultans of Swing by The Dire Straits
Riders on the Storm by The Doors

While My Guitar Gently Weeps by The Beatles
There are some others that also belong in the running, but I put them here because too many will scoff because they are overplayed, but they deserve to be on this list:

Agreed. Good but not top 50.
Good list. I’d throw some “newer” songs in there.
Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
Everlong - Foo Fighters
One - Metallica
I can agree with Everlong. Smells Like Teen Spirit is definitely epic, and Nirvana was a game changer, but I can't say it deserves possible top billing. I do not know the Metallica song. Will go listen to it now.
