Now confirmed it’s a hit and run incident. Be *very* careful out there and don’t trust any drivers…

Heartbreaking. They were in town for a meet. The article says that the driver was captured nearby after he crashed into the median. Draw your own conclusions about his state of impairment.
This is awful news. This young man was from the same town that poster Stoppit Smith says he resides in. May this young man rest in peace.
Huge loss for the running community and for Milligan. They won the NAIA xc title this past fall and Eli got 10th at indoor nats in the 5k. He was also a big running fanatic as he follows a lot of the pros on strava/instagram. Hopefully some of them can do something for the family/team. Prayers to all

For those who don’t know, Eli was an All-American (finished 20th) at last years NAIA XC championship and helped his team win the title by finishing as Milligan’s third man.
My heart goes out to his family, friends, and teammates.
Very sad news. My condolences to the family and friends of all who were hit. The driver was intoxicated but until drivers start to take some caution around runners, this is going to keep happening. Not a day goes by that I see crazy drivers and they often get close to hitting me on my runs. It can be hard, if not impossible to avoid.
didn't know Eli personally but knew of him mutually/by others in the TN HS/college running scene. everyone has said that he was just a great, genuine dude in general and really helped the younger guys in his area with running. terrible loss for everyone that was around him. RIP
Lock the animal in a room with the runner's father. I am so sick of these "people". Rip buddy.

Agree 100% I run past a number of apartment complex entrances and I give the cars the right away. I don't trust them to respect pedestrian right away. I either run behind their car or I stop and walk to signal to them that they can have the crosswalk. I'd rather lose seconds off of a training run than risk it with moronic drivers who don't respect pedestrian right away.
You can't even trust the sober idiotic drivers around here.
I approached entrances to apartments many times and noticed that the driver is only looking one way before they pull out. I probably avoided a number of incidents and near-misses by making that observation. Why can't idiots just look both ways before pulling out of the entranceways.
It looks like a drunk driver hit 5 runners…. Nothing they could have done to avoid the car. Should be vehicular manslaughter…
My college was very close to there team when I was competing very sad to hear. I hope they find the culprit and put him away for life.

I believe you can undo, you just have to upvote
A-hole drivers in America are part of the reason why I go for running on trails or go MTB as opposed to the crete. I really do hate the way America designed it's cities infrastructure/so far centric. It feels like a death march to walk almost anywhere in America outside from the mall parking lot into the mall. And we wonder why Americans are so fat and unhealthy. Too much driving and not enough walking.
A friend of mine his son knows the kid that was killed. Sad day. I hope that the other kids will recover from their injuries.
