800 and 1500 heats have been run. 5000 final is a straight final on Saturday.
A quick preview/summary
Men's 1500
McSweyn pulled out of 1500, maybe still running the 5k? He has had some issues with covid recovery, not sure if someone else knows more? Jye Edwards, the defending champion, is on the comeback from injury and also not racing
Oliver Hoare now the hot favourite and comfortably through.
Jack Anstey maybe the next favourite - didn't have his best run in Belgrade, but got through the heats okay.
Matt Ramsden, doubling in the 5km and ran well at Belgrade in the 3000. Won his heat.
Jude Thomas, young guy who won national 3000 a few weeks ago and seems on the up
Others to watch: Callum Davies, Rorey Hunter, Cameron Griffith
Women's 1500
Jess Hull has pulled out - I am not sure why or if she will still race the 5000.
Linden Hall comfortably through, probably looking unbeatable.
Sarah Billings back running well after some injured years, and got through the heats comfortably.
Georgia Griffith has ran some fast 800s this year and looks like she's getting back to her best
Abbey Caldwell, still young, ran a mostly solo 4:04 at a club race in Melbourne recently.
Melissa Duncan has been back in Australia for a while now after racing for a Japanese corporate team and has had a solid domestic season - she's often looked like she's just a few races away from rekindling her world class form of 2015/2016.
Men's 800
Pete Bol should run away with this.
Charlie Hunter, Jeff Risely, Brad Mathas and Jye Perrot probably the ones fighting for the minor places.
Women's 800
Catriona Bisset has been the local Queen for a few years and is looking unbeatable after a very solid Euro indoor season, finishing with 5th in Belgrade.
Bendere Oboya, the Patryk Dobek of Australian women's 800 running, didn't make it through the heats in her 3rd ever 800 despite her PB of 2:01.92 and wins against strong fields in her previous races. Does anyone know the story here? Regardless, everything is a learning experience for her at the moment.
Claudia Hollingsworth, still only 16, is maybe the next favourite. She won her heat easily.
I'll leave the summary there for now. Live results, timetable and livestream can be found here:
