Is this the deepest team in D3 history? 16 guys under 15:00 in mid- March is pretty impressive. Looks like they have potential to put more than 20 under for the season
Wow that's impressive. Also very impressed that they can get 16 people on the track roster to run the 5k. (In this day and age with all the roster limits and such.)
Most D1 programs have roster limits around 16-18 for cross country. It's unique when D3 schools have significant advantages over D1 schools, and clearly Pomona Pitzer has an unlimited roster size.
Claremont Mudd Scripps also had 9 guys sub 15 at that same meet (and another three away at indoor nationals). That's like 30 sub 15 guys in one square mile campus area

Maybe the Sagehens could beat Newbury Park in a duel meet after all.
"Lukas Cunningham took sixth in the 800m with a time of 1:55.55. The 5k was the biggest event of the day for the Sagehens with a distance crew of 18 runners competing for Pomona-Pitzer in the event. 16 runners turned in sub-15 minute performances with four runners cracking into the top-20 overall. Lucas Florsheim led the way in eighth with a time of 14:13.04, putting him second all-time in program history. Colin Kirkpatrick finished the race in 14:23.65 to take 14th overall and put his name sixth all-time in program history. Jack Rosencrans followed closely behind with a seventh all-time race of 14:24.55 to take 15th while Ethan Widlansky finished in 19th with a time of 14:30.72, putting him eighth all-time. Nathaniel Getachew took third in the 3k steeplechase with a time of 9:19.20 while Duncan Spiers took fourth with a time of 9:26.76."
14:13/14:23/14:24/14:30, +1:55/9:19/9:26.
This is a great, great performance for division III. They are much deeper than NP. But, alas, they'd lose with five scoring, as NP would be able to put four runners down before their first one. That's 10 points for NP's first four, then likely 36 points for Pomona's top five. It'd come down to one of their low 9 or bare sub-9 guys coming through in around 14:30s. Pomona could have as many as 19 guys (16 from the 5000m plus two from the steeple and one from the 800) between NP's 4th and 5th men, but probably not. If they did, then the score would be:
NP 34
Pomona 36
Very close. If the couple of 15 minute Pomona guys also beat NP's fifth guy (some of whom were running 15:10 or slower in xc), then it'd be a tie.

It would be fun so cal exhibition. I’m thinking PP’s top runner might pick off NPs #4. Also, if the race is 8K instead of 5K, I’m thinking PP’s chances go up. I’m scoring it PP 34 and NP 35! If it was a tri meet and CMS joined in, then PP wins for sure.

Your math is all wrong. Embarrassingly wrong. If a team sweeps the top 3 places in a dual meet, there is no mathematical way for them to lose. Not to mention you can't score 34 and 35 points in a dual meet. That's too high of a point total.
I still think it’s great that a small, academically intense school can have a large group of guys to train that hard. It’s not like they’re at some school with nothing else to do but run.
The idea was whether they would win D3 nationals (8K) given the huge drop-off to their 5th guy and how far back he'd finish in a 25+ minute race for him.
I’m sure the D3 school doesn’t care either- to be fair, it wasn’t them that started the conversation. I think it was Np fans- gotta love their passion for the sport and NP’s stars. They remind me of Da Bears fans on SNL a long time ago.

It's actually 2 schools with a combined team, so that's another really big advantage.
